Work Must be submitted before the start of class. Late work will not be accepted.
Pay attention to deadlines and plan yourself accordingly.

Sketchbook
Progress checked class 5,10,15,19

Progress - 40%

 

  • 60 pages front and back

  • Just Markers. NO PENCIL!

  • Students must number pages.

  • Content based on observation from life.

  • Ex. humans, animals, environments, objects

  • Sketchbook must be present in class or it will not be graded.

  • No Fan Art!

 

Grading: 10pts

  • 5pt - Quality of Drawings / Full Page Utilized

  • 5pt - Diversity of Subjects

Class 3

2D ANIMATIC - 6%

 

  • Submit a completed animatic of your short film.

  • Create a short film with exactly 3 shots!

  • Base the 3 shots on "Puppet Movie Parody"

  • Must contain audio (Use the movie's audio).

  • Use a live action film. Do not base your animation off of another animation.

  • Focus on Staging. We should be able to clearly tell what is happening.

  • After your animatic, cut in the 3 shots you used as refrence.

  • Place your movie file in the dropbox.

  • Turn in your movie using Blackboard Deadlines link for grading.

  • Post your movie in Blackboard Discussions for critique.

  • Naming: Sp22_Anim190_1_LastnameFirstname.mp4 (960x540, h.264)

 

Grading: 10pts

  • 2pt - Is the movie recognizable

  • 2pt - Puppet designs

  • 2pt - Visual Timing

  • 2pt - Sound quality and timing

  • 2pt - Instructions Followed

Deadline 2

Class 6

Puppet Modeling - 9%

 

  • Model your characters based on classic TV puppets.

  • Quality = Rendered Turntable transitioning between occlusion and wireframe.

  • 1 Rotation = 120 frames

  • Resolution = 720p, H.264, 24fps

  • Place your movie file in the dropbox.

  • Turn in your movie using Blackboard Deadlines link for grading.

  • Post your movie in Blackboard Discussions for critique.

Puppet Surfacing - 9%

 

  • Surface your characters based on classic TV puppets.

  • Quality = Rendered

  • 1 Rotation = 120 frames

  • Resolution = 720p, Quicktime, H.264, 24fps

  • Place your movie file in the dropbox.

  • Turn in your movie using Blackboard Deadlines link for grading.

  • Post your movie in Blackboard Discussions for critique.

Puppet Rigs and Blocking- 12%

  • All 3 shots are laid out with blocking animation and are edited together.

  • Rig's will be graded based on deformation quality in the animation.

  • (keep a working reel. Replace the shots with updated, better versions.

  • Quality = Playblast 720p

  • Resolution = 720p, H.264, 24fps

  • Place your movie file in the dropbox.

Lighting Still Frame Renders - 9%

 

  • Quality = Rendered 720p

  • Create a movie with the following:

    • 1 frame fully rendered for each shot

    • Follow each frame by 1 reference frame from the original film.

    • Edit your frames together, hold each frame for 3 seconds.

  • Place your movie file in the dropbox.

  • Turn in your movie using Blackboard Deadlines link for grading.

  • Post your movie in Blackboard Discussions for critique.
