Late Work

Assignments are due before the START of class. Late work will receive a 20% deduction.

Work not submitted within 48 hours after due date will be a 0.

All submissions will be through blackboard assignments.

If you have Accommodations:

You must email me before the due date.

Let me know what accommodation you are using.

Extra time accommodations are due 48 hours after the due date.

After that 48 hours the grade will be a 0.

Rubric

Each deadline rubric will consist of 10 points. Broken down into 5 "2 point" categories.

2     - work shows exceptional understanding and demonstrates original or unique skills.

1.7  - work shows proficient understanding of subject.

1.4    - work shows developing understanding of subject.

1 - work shows minimum understanding of subject.

0    - work not submitted or incomplete.

Project: Infinite Journey

In this project you will learn the basics of the visual effects pipeline. You will create your own character and send them on a journey in the transportation of your choice. You will be given a starter file for scale and speed. Watch the reference video to the right for inspiration.
Deadline 1 - Class 5
Concept Art / Character Model Check in- 20%

 

  • Submit a still image of your model progress with wire-frame turned on.

  • Submit a still image of what you want your shot to look like.

  • This can be digitally painted or photo-shopped from reference images.

  • Where is the shot located?

  • What is the time period?

  • What is the lighting situation?

  • Your shot must contain a biped character sitting at a table.

  • This picture will be your blueprint moving forward.

  • Final Resolution 3840 x 2160

  • Submit your .png files through the assignments link on blackboard.

  • Post your .png in Blackboard Journals WIP for critique.

  • ex. SAV_YearQuarter_VSFX_FirstnameLastname_01a.png ( concept )

Grading: 10pts
  • 2pt - Concept is Clear and Easily Understandable

  • 2pt - Color Theory and Design Principles are used appropriately.

  • 2pt - Character model is in progress with basic proportions blocked out.

  • 2pt - Overall Presentation and Creativity

Deadline 2 - Class 7

Character Modeling - 20%

 

  • Model a simple character for your scene.

  • Make sure it is a biped in t-pose.

  • Layout the UV's

  • Rendered a Turntable transitioning between the following:

    • 5 second rotation of grey shaded model

    • 5 second rotation of grey shaded model with wireframe

    • 5 second rotation of checker shaded model

  • 1 Rotation = 120 frames

  • Resolution = 1920x1080p, H.264, 24fps

  • Submit your .mp4 file through the assignments link on blackboard.

  • Post your .mp4 in Blackboard WIP for critique.

Character Surfacing - 20%

 

  • Surface your character.

  • Quality = Rendered

  • 1 Rotation = 120 frames

  • Resolution =1920x1080, .mp4, H.264, 24fps

  • Submit your .mp4 file through the assignments link on blackboard.

  • Post your .mp4 in Blackboard Discussions for critique.

Grading: 10pts
  • 2pt - Color and Specular Roughness

  • 2pt - Bump / Normal and other material properties

  • 2pt - Texture resolution, stretching and seams

  • 2pt - Render / Presentation Quality

Class 15

Final Animation and Interior Modeling - 20%

 

  • Quality = Rendered 1280 x 720

  • Texture progress is optional

  • Shot is laid out with final animation and Interior Models.

  • Background is blocked in with at least place holders.

  • Lighting blocked out with color / temperature adjusted.

  • Submit your .mp4 file through the assignments link on blackboard.

  • Post your .mp4 in Blackboard Discussions for critique.

  • 2pt - Prop Model Quality

  • Create a shot based on the Infinite Journey Template.

  • Resolution - 1920x1080
